Our Journey with OMF

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Psalm 32:8

At first, we were relatively clueless about how to get started. We hardly knew anything about missions and certainly not in Asia. And so we thought about which missionaries we knew at all who had something to do with Japan. Karolina had met two missionary families during her time in Japan and it turned out that both were with OMF International.

We looked at OMF’s home page and immediately could fully identify with their principles and values, vision and goals, as they wholeheartedly declare their dependence on God. On the mission opportunities page, work among students in Japan also caught our eyes right away.

The first visit to OMF’s German headquarters in Mücke, Hesse, was like a family reunion. We immediately felt at home during the conversations and prayers with the staff and were therefore sure that Jesus was directing us to this organization.

OMF stands for Overseas Missionary Fellowship and was founded in 1865 by Hudson Taylor as the China Inland Mission. It is active in many countries of East Asia to spread the good news of Jesus and understands itself since its foundation as a faith mission. This means that each missionary trusts completely in God’s guidance and care, both in his ministry and in his financial provision.
